The interview below first appeared on Word of the Nerd in June of 2015.
How did you first get into cosplay?
My very first con was New York Comic Con in 2013; I made Mortal Kombat costumes for my friend and I, and we were totally blown away by the NYCC scene. Since then, I’ve upped my game and sewed and sewed and sewed, and the rest is history!
How much time do you spend making your costumes?
Oh goodness, it seems endless. I can definitely spend a month just working on a single cosplay! I try to focus on just one cosplay at a time, which seems to help with time management.
What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve done so far?
My Ame-Comi Chrismas Catwoman was definitely my favorite. It had so many buckles and straps, which made it feel and look really complete.
Do you usually get positive reactions from fans?
Definitely! My followers on Instagram and Facebook are the most lovely people ever; I could just cry even THINKING about how incredibly supportive everyone is!
What’s the next costume or event you’re preparing for?
Right now, I’m in the midst of Katsucon prep! I’m working on a original design of Princess Peach. (see below!)
What characters inspire you the most?
I could go on and on about characters, but really what inspires me most is other cosplayers. There is so much passion and excitement in the community, and it makes me want to work even harder!
What is your primary area of inspiration for your cosplay? Comics, anime, games or other?
I’ve mostly cosplayed comic characters so far, but I have some serious dreams in both anime and games! I’ll hopefully unveil a little of each at Katsucon!
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
I find that the forums on cosplay.com are especially useful, but I also find a lot of great tutorials and suggestions on Tumblr.
